"My style is the style of the person in front of me," Lotte Jacobi once said. Born in 1896 in Western Prussia and forced to leave Germany during Hitler's regime, Jacobi immigrated to the United States where her career as a portrait photographer flourished.
Atelier Lotte Jacobi Berlin New York provides a fascinating overview of the work of this seminal woman photographer from her early years in Berlin to her death in 1990 at the age of 94. Widely considered to be one of the premiere photographers of the 20th century, Jacobi photographed an impressive array of intellectuals, cultural figures and celebrities, among them Lotte Lenya, Mary Wigman, Emil Jannings, Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert Frost, j.D. Salinger and Paul Robeson.
