This is a series which in four volumes covers the whole range of recorded music. The first two volumes deal with orchestral recordings; the third and fourth (to be published in 1963) cover chamber and instrumental music and vocal music. Although in four volumes for convenience of reference and price, it is to be regarded as one book and we hope that the person who finds one volume instructive and entertaining will want to buy and keep the others.
Each volume gives a Wide choice of recordings, catering for all tastes, considering the person who wants the latest stereo version and the person with more modest equipment. Special emphasis is laid on the many cheap recordings that are available. All the obvious composers are covered and a great many more besides. These books contain not just a list of records but are musical companions that will give endless pleasure; a course in musical appreciation that never turns into a textbook. You will find, for example, under Mozart, as complete a survey as anywhere outside the specialized books.
For anyone who wants to get the best out of gramophone records and the world's music—this book is a must.
