Fotografe Carla van de Puttelaar (Zaandam, 1967) is gespecialiseerd in portretfotografie, maar verwierf vooral bekendheid door haar vrije werk. Zij studeerde van 1991 tot 1996 aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Voor haar eindexamenwerk won zij de Esther Kroon prijs. In 2002 won zij een basisprijs als genomineerde voor de Prix de Rome.
De foto's van Carla van de Puttelaar kenmerken zich door een vervreemdende sensualiteit. Ze portretteert vooral vrouwen, vaak naakt. Naar eigen zeggen vindt ze haar inspiratie in de Nederlandse schilderkunst van de Gouden Eeuw, in oude portretfotografie en in de Ukiyo-e van bijvoorbeeld Utamaro.

Photographer Carla van de Puttelaar (Zaandam, 1967) specializes in portrait photography, but is mainly known for her free work. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy from 1991 to 1996. She won the Esther Kroon prize for her graduation work. In 2002 she won a basic prize as nominee for the Prix de Rome.
Carla van de Puttelaar's photos are characterized by an alienating sensuality. She mainly portrays women, often naked. She says she finds her inspiration in Dutch painting of the Golden Age, in old portrait photography and in the Ukiyo-e of, for example, Utamaro.
